All I Want for Christmas is Who?

Christmas is a time to open our hearts to God and his gifts. Just like the rest of the year. ~Author Unknown

With whom do you want to celebrate Christmas?

Whenever the climate gives us the chills, people tend to look for someone whom they could cuddle with. The first person that comes into our minds is our special someone. Unfortunately (or fortunately), some people don’t have a special someone. Maybe it’s because they haven’t found the one or they simply want to be single – we should let them be. After all, they have friends and family members that are more than willing to hug them all day and all night.

But if the time comes and all you have is yourself, it’s still fine to give yourself a good hug. At least in that way, you show that you love yourself and you lessen the chills as well. But jokes aside, a good and trusty jacket could keep you warm from all those holiday blues – Just imagine that someone is hugging you instead of the sleeves.

Now, come to think of it, sometimes all that we could think of is whom we should celebrate Christmas with. We list down the names of the people whom we should give gifts to and the parties that we need or want to attend. We keep on thinking what we should get for ourselves so that we could fulfill our own Christmas wish lists. Has it ever crossed our minds why we are celebrating Christmas in the first place? I guess, not anymore.

With the material things that await us during Christmas, we tend to forget the real reason why Christmas is celebrated all around the world. The day itself is still special for all of us but then I think that we celebrate it for the holiday’s sake. We have forgotten that it is meant to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

I don’t want to claim that I am a very good person that completes the simbang gabiand still commemorates that special day. But with what’s happening all around us, I do think that a simple greeting and attending the mass on that special day would be much better than slacking and drinking around. I am not that religious myself, but Christmas happens once a year just like our own birthdays. I guess celebrating His birthday would not be that difficult for us since we get to celebrate our own birthdays as well.

We could continue partying like we usually do but thanking Him for all of the blessings that we have received all throughout the year won’t take too much time. It only takes a day to celebrate His birthday and to thank Him for every little thing that we could ever think of. I guess a day won’t even be a burden to us.

Now, think again. With whom do you want to celebrate this Christmas? – Rachelle Belaro
