27 students with Latin honors have led the 79-strong graduating batch of UP AIT on April 19 during the commencement ceremony held at the UP Film Institute.
Topping the class is Norma Vergara, one of the five magna cum laudes. The others are salutatorian Mia Micah Nicolas, Juan Carlo Danganan, Marielle Kristine Ebao, and Paolo Abellanosa.
Meanwhile, 22 students achieved the honor of cum laude.
Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Jr. who recently held a forum in the college was commencement speaker during the event. He emphasized the critical role and responsibility of AIT students to the Filipino society.
“Ang napasukan niyong negosyo ay isang giyera. Giyera ng kultura…ng ideyang pangturismo para sa industriya ng turismo sa Pilipinas [The business you are now in is a battle of culture and ideas for the tourism industry in the Philippines],” said Jimenez.
“Kayo sa AIT ang inaasahang mamuno sa giyerang ito. Nasa inyo ang kakayahan at kaalaman para tayo’y magtagumpay. [You in AIT are expected to lead this battle. You have the capability and necessary knowledge for us to succeed],”
Jimenez is an alumnus of the UP College of Fine Arts (FA). Aside from UP AIT, he was also speaker at the UP Integrated School and FA.
