Vying for Vacated Post

After Alyanna Cagandahan was declared not qualified to continue her service in student government and the AIT SC decided to reshuffle posts, the position for Mass Media Councilor has been vacant. This called for a snap election of a new councilor to occupy the empty post for this second semester. Two AIT students have risen to the occasion and are both vying for office as Mass Media Councilor. Rachel Tabilin asks some of their insights on their campaign.

Name: Irish Lara Cayetano Lubi

What made you run as Mass Media Councilor? Well, it’s my last semester in AIT; I want to do something worthwhile before I leave. I don’t want to be just a typical student; I want to be a leader who’ll be able to serve the AIT students. So I’m taking this opportunity.

What is your assessment of the AIT Student Council last semester?

Well, there may have been some shortcomings, because there’s no perfect organization. But we can see that the SC is doing its best to serve students here in AIT and as much as possible, we get to be involved with whatever is happening inside campus through its efforts.

What would be your contribution if elected in office?

As Mass Media Councilor, I want to better promote the accounts of the AIT-SC on networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Because, honestly, I didn’t know that the AIT-SC has an FB page. And so I want the SC to be more approachable to students through these sites.

What’s your take on the reshuffling of councilors?

It’s a wise move since JC (Danganan), as chairperson, have assessed the strengths and weaknesses of the councilors, from that, he has put the right people in the right positions.

What can you say about your love life?

Kahit hindi ako manalo, ako naman ang future Mrs. Manalo (laughs).

Kenneth Hernando and Irish Lubi

Name: Kenneth John Cachuela Hernando

What made you run as Mass Media Councilor?

Since last semester, I wanted to bring out my potentials not only as a student but also as a person of service. And so last semester, I’ve endeavored to serve the student body by being part of the AIT Vol-Corps.

What is your assessment of the AIT Student Council last semester?

So far their programs have been really helpful to students, especially the Lecture Series wherein the Tourism Secretaries are invited as speakers, since students become more knowledgeable about what’s happening in the industry.

What would be your contribution if elected in office?

Primarily, it would be to promote the events of the AIT-SC since I’m vying for the position as Mass Media Councilor. But more important than that, I want to promote unity among the AIT student body for I think that we’d be able to work better if we work as one.

What’s your take on the reshuffling of councilors?

I think it’s the discretion of the AIT-SC. If they think that they would better serve the AIT students, then go for it. There’s no problem about it.

What can you say about your love life?

Well, I’m single, happy and… waiting.

  1. It’s refreshing to see AIT students becoming more active in terms of involvement with the institute itself and the welfare of others. I hope to see that all their projects would push through and have the whole AIT community support it.
